.PT supports Guinea-Bissau's top-level domain's management

.PT announces the transfer of management of the Guinea-Bissau top-level domain (.gw) to the National Regulatory Authority (ARN), after a seven years' collaboration and support from .PT to the technical and administrative management of the .gw.

This is a normal process and was already provided for in the collaboration protocol signed between the two entities in 2014. During this year, training was provided to the ARN team, and the definition of operational and technical requirements for a smooth transition, .PT will continue to provide support whenever necessary.

The cooperation between the .PT and the ARN, the entity responsible for the coordination, supervision and planning of the information and communication technology sector in Guinea-Bissau, was formalized in 2014 after the ARN obtained the redelegation of the top-level domain .gw with IANA (Internet Assigned Numbers Authority), with the support of the portuguese registry . As of this date, the .PT started to guarantee the technical and administrative management of the .gw.

Additionally, the cooperation agreement signed between the two entities also foreseen that .PT would be responsible for the acquisition and monitoring of the installation and operation of the secondary server to be housed in the data center of the ARN, as well as for the development, implementation and maintenance of the .gw registration support website: www.nic.gw.

Recorde-se que o .PT assume atualmente a presidência da LusNIC – Associação de Registries de Língua Portuguesa, criada em 2015,  com o objetivo de promover a cooperação internacional na defesa dos interesses dos ccTLD’s de língua portuguesa e de projetar a língua e os conteúdos portugueses na Internet, fomentando a partilha de conhecimento nas suas áreas de intervenção, e desenvolvendo contactos e iniciativas de cooperação entre as entidades responsáveis pela gestão dos domínios de topo lusófonos.

1st Lusophone Internet Governance Forum

On the 18th and 19h of September, the 1st Internet Governance Forum of the Lusophone Community will take place at the Museum of the Portuguese Language in São Paulo - Brazil.

Among the topics under discussion will be the Internet governance ecosystem, the Portuguese language on the Internet, the Global Digital Compact and the challenges and opportunities for the development of the Internet in Portuguese-speaking countries.
